From survivors sharing their recovery stories to domestic violence centers across the nation sharing best practices, PCADV’s 40th Anniversary Conference is a powerful summit celebrating four decades of advocacy while also providing key learning opportunities and skill-building sessions designed to shape the future of domestic violence services throughout Pennsylvania. Professionals from the fields of criminal justice, health care, education and research will gather to participate in intensive workshops and peer discussions to address prevention strategies, public policy and improved services for victims.
While victimization from domestic violence transcends race, age, gender and socioeconomic status, domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women. Ironically, women face the greatest risk of assault when they leave or threaten to leave their partners, or report the abuse to authorities. Domestic violence not only severely affects victims, it also threatens community safety and costs our nation more than $8 billion each year in medical treatment, lost work and school time, police response and community services.
